Converge Challenge - Calling all University of Dundee Budding Entrepreneurs

What is Converge Challenge and Why Enter?

Converge is a high profile, pan-Scotland company creation competition and entrepreneurship development programme for staff, students and recent graduates of the University and all Scottish universities and research institutes. Now entering into its sixth year, the competition is aimed at creating a new generation of entrepreneurs in Scotland.

Converge Challenge works with any industry sector, product or service-based ideas at any stage of the development. The total prize fund in Converge Challenge is over £100,000.

There are three winning categories for the Converge Challenge 2015:

- Converge Challenge Award

- Kick Start Award

- Social Enterprise Award

Why Enter?

The winner receives £35,000 in cash to start their business – a huge injection at a vital stage in a young company's development plus a further £25,000 in business support from sponsors such as Morton Fraser, Murgitroyd, and Baker Tilly.

Over the last four years, the programme has attracted 260 applications, engaged with 120 projects, from which around 30% went on to create companies. Four out of five of these businesses have secured follow-on investment and funding which currently stands at £10 million.

Converge Challenge collaborates with other organisations supporting idea generation such as the RSE, Entrepreneurial Scotland, Enterprise Campus, Firstport and Youth Enterprise Scotland to ensure alumni get access to ongoing opportunities such as networking events and a large pool of advice to commercialise their work.

Converge Challenge is focused on developing the entrepreneurial skills of students and university researchers through a rigorous programme of support and engagement over an 18 month period. Working with experienced facilitators from the universities and private sector, participants receive training, coaching and one-to-one mentoring as well as substantial cash prizes for the three winners.

Dundee has a great track record in Converge Challenge

Last year Muhammad Sadiq from the School of Medicine took second place in the competition for his Ultravizion project, while Chris McCann, one of our medical students, won the Kickstart Challenge. Both received great support for their entrepreneurial ventures.
