SCRI Summer 2009: Programme of industry events

The Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) is holding three crop events aimed at industry this summer.

The events and dates are:

  • Cereals in Practice – Tuesday 7th July 2009
  • Fruit for the Future - Thursday 16 July 2009
  • Potatoes in Practice – Thursday 13 August 2009

Cereals in Practice

Cereals in Practice is Scotland’s newest cereals event and will be held at SCRI’s new Balruddery Farm on Tuesday 7 July 2009 from 2-7pm.

Cereals in Practice combines SCRI’s previous cereals event, Cereal Solutions, with the SAC Angus/Perthshire Agronomy Centre wheat and barley variety and management trials to create a must-attend event for anyone interested in cereal farming and associated industries.

Fruits for the Future

Fruit for the Future will be held at SCRI on Thursday 16 July 2009 from 1.30pm-5pm and is an opportunity to find out more about recent developments.

Visitors will hear about current research and trends in SCRI’s soft fruit breeding and research programmes including fruit quality and consumer preference, and integrated crop management.

After the talks, a tour of SCRI’s fruit research and breeding plots will culminate in the opportunity to taste test current and prospective new cultivars from our breeding programme.

Potatoes in Practice 2009

The UK’s premier potato field event, Potatoes in Practice, moves to a new venue for 2009. It will be held at SCRI’s Balruddery Farm on Thursday 13 August 2009 from 9.30am – 4.30pm. The event brings together variety trials and research in one place and is a key date in the potato industry calendar.

Potatoes in Practice is sponsored by the Potato Council and features trials and demonstrations from SCRI, SAC, CSC Potato Care and the potato industry. More than 700 growers, advisors, overseas visitors and industry representatives attended the event in 2008.

Companies will exhibit their products at this year’s event by taking:

  • a field plot
  • a marquee stand
  • an outside machinery stand.
