Shaw Water Engineering Ltd were named winners of the Early Impact Through Innovation category in the John Logie Baird Awards 2008 ceremony held in the Glagow Science Centre in December.
The company are water treatment specialists and have identified a need in the market for an improved means of detecting Cryptosporidium in drinking water supplied. Cryptosporidium, a chlorine-resistant pathogenic micro-organism, causes the potentially fatal cryptosporidiosis. Current methods of detecting the parasite are expensive, time-consuming and unreliable. Shaw Water Engineering Ltd have developed and online continuous monitoring system which will provide fast and accurate results, thereby improving the reliability of water treatment and benefiting public safety.
