University of Dundee, logoThe University of Dundee, the host Institution of the project, has an international research reputation in life sciences, laboratory based medicine, concrete technology, civil engineering and digital media. UoD has a highly successful record in spinning-out companies as a means of transferring its technology into the market place, having spun out over 20 companies which have created over 500 jobs directly in the local economy.

Abertay University is the top-rated university in Scotland for environmental science research, with leading-edge initiatives such as the Abertay Centre for the Environment (ACE), the Urban Water Technology Centre, and SIMBIOS.  Abertay researchers are also studying issues as varied as the Scottish economy, advanced pain management, food and nutrition science, psychology, computer arts and digital media.

The James Hutton Institute is Scotland's leading institute for research on plants and their interactions with the environment, particularly in managed ecosystems. The James Hutton Institute also hosts Biomathics and Statistics Scotland (BioSS) and the Plant Research Unit of the University of Dundee. Research is conducted on a wide range of plants but particularly the crop plants barley, potato, blackcurrant and raspberry.
