The purpose of the Innovation Portal is to promote and foster productive knowledge transfer between the Universities of Dundee and Abertay, The James Hutton Institute and Scottish industry. Its aim is to improve the competitiveness of local businesses by bringing together innovative companies with scientists, technologists and engineering experts keen to apply their expertise to the needs of industry.
The Innovation Portal can support SMEs with a number of services including;
- Specific projects – Do you have an idea for a new product, service or process? Companies tell us that the biggest barrier to innovation is lack of time. Due to the nature of SMEs, impending projects and deadlines come first as most do not have dedicated R&D staff or facilities. The Innovation Portal can assist in these instances, helping to guide the project from idea through to a funded collaboration project.
- Identifying expertise - Are you working on a project which requires you to outsource advice from a specialist? Many projects present SMEs with problems and issues which require additional technical knowledge, facilities and skill. Academics can apply their expertise to a wide variety of areas to provide solutions and assist in driving ideas forward into the commercial arena
- Specific Research - would you like to discuss having specific research carried out which would give you a competitive advantage or increase your reputation as a specialist in a particular market?
The Innovation Portal small grants scheme can provide support to Scottish SMEs in the instance that further investigation is needed.
